Character Success

I wanted to mention character today. The character being you attributes, what characteristics make up your attitude? This is really where we begin to see success build. As you build a character that attracts people and people feel they can trust, then you can find success.

So what makes a successful character? Think about someone you respect, honor, follow. Why do you follow them? Is it their track record of success? Is it their personable attitude? Are they always with their spouse? Are they always in the moment 100% whether its meetings, conversations, discussions? What do you emulate about the person. Now do the same thing with another person.  What attributes did you come up with this time?

So is this what makes up a successful character? I’ll share a couple I found. Among the top was the drive or determination to accomplish the goals they had. Day in and day out their minds were driven and focused on goals. Those goals spanned everything from incomes to quality time with family. Which leads to the next one. They separated their day. If it was family time, they were there. If it was a meeting with a client, they were there. They didn’t allow their mind to wander, chase fleeting thoughts or worry. They controlled their thoughts to give them the happiness they wanted.
What you want to do is develop such a character that it becomes a symbol of who you are. Just like we cant look at or see the sun really, but because of it we can see everything else, you want what you do to be so natural that everything you work on, touch, influence is distinctively yours. Your personal touch is what you offer, it’s what makes you unique.
So go through what you’re good at. As a good friend what they think your best qualities are, go to a couple friends. Then ask what you can work on. Have them be honest. Be honest with yourself. Now with these in mind, develop a way to incorporate that into your day. Get a list, maybe 3 or 4 things you can work on.
Maybe one thing is being more direct in your responses. Write a note to yourself on your computer, a sticky note for your folder, saying that you want to be more concise, simple, direct. And glance at it every so often to remind yourself. Set an alarm on your phone that goes off every couple hours that says, remember to be direct. Just some suggestions. Have fun with it; make up a plan that will work for you.

Your character is what defines you as an individual, your value, your mark is what you do, what you say, how you act. Success comes by first developing the character that will attract success.
